Rashford has opened up about Manchester United’s transitional phase during his unveiling at Barcelona, where he has secured a season-long loan move. Barcelona will be footing the bill for his hefty £325,000-a-week wages and have also secured an option to make the deal permanent next year.
United head coach Ruben Amorim had dropped Rashford from consideration for future matches, having been ignored after substituting him during a 2-1 Europa League victory at Viktoria Plzen on December 12.
Rashford, along with teammates Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia, were reportedly told to avoid being at Carrington training ground when the first team was present.
Barcelona have long been admirers of Rashford, signalling what appears to be the end of his 20-year journey with United.
Despite the move, Rashford harbours no ill feelings towards his childhood club, speaking very respectably during his unveiling.
He said: “The situation with United is that the club is in a period of change, and they have been for a while. So I don’t have anything bad to say about Manchester United
“It’s been an important part of not only my career but my life. I’m grateful for the opportunity to play for them.
“Football is the same as life. Not everything goes as simple as you may have thought. This is my next step and next chapter.
“I’m fully focused on this and trying to improve myself and help the team win trophies.
“I don’t have anything to say about Manchester United, I just wish them all the best, and I hope they are successful in the future. I’m focused on here and I’m ready to play, I’m ready to experience this club.”
Rashford has confessed to reinstating “discipline” in his life following a couple of tumultuous years.
The former United player faced criticism from ex-manager Erik ten Hag for attending a birthday celebration shortly after a 3-0 home loss to Manchester City in October 2023.
He was subsequently benched for the FA Cup fourth round match against Newport County after a notorious night out in Belfast.
