Manchester United Statement on Alexander Isak Amid Exit from Newcastle

Manchester United are unlikely to move for striker Alexander Isak despite his apparent desire to leave Newcastle.

United sources do not expect the club to explore the possibility of signing Isak, who is reputedly valued at £150million by Newcastle. A separate source said there was “no chance” of United going for Isak.

Isak, 25, was the third-highest scorer in the Premier League last season and United want a new starting striker to replace Rasmus Hojlund.

The club have already committed to investing £133.5m in forwards Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo and would have to generate significant funds to compete for Isak. United are seeking fees for wingers Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho and Antony.

Liverpool registered their interest in Isak earlier this month and have just signed striker Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt, having bought playmaker Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for a fee rising to £116m.

United have recorded a minus goal difference in the Premier League in the past two seasons and Hojlund, a £72m signing from Atalanta in 2023, managed only four league goals last term.

Liam Delap was United’s first choice but he chose to join Chelsea from Ipswich Town. Viktor Gyokeres is expected to finally complete a transfer to Arsenal.

RB Leipzig frontman Benjamin Sesko was of interest to United three years ago when he played for Red Bull Salzburg but he is under contract at Leipzig until 2029.

Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins and Crystal Palace frontman Jean-Philippe Mateta have emerged as possible options. United ideally want a new goalscorer who has Premier League experience.
