Ruben Amorim wants to sign a proven goalscorer in the final month of the window, with Sesko a player who has been of long-term interest to the club.

United sources have already ruled out a move for Newcastle star Alexander Isak due to the finances involved in a deal and have also deemed it unlikely they will bid for an expensive option like Sesko or Nicolas Jackson.

United signed Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha from their original transfer budget but will need player sales to fund any further business.

Newcastle could have a clear run at Sesko, despite recent reports from German journalist Guido Schäfer, who claimed Sesko has given his preference to an Old Trafford move this summer.

The 22-year-old is expected to leave Leipzig before deadline day and Fabrizio Romano insists he is still an option for United at this stage of the window.

Manchester United might view a move for Benjamin Sesko as unlikely but transfer guru Fabrizio Romano is adamant they could yet make a late attempt to hijack his proposed move to Newcastle.

Newcastle are expecting an answer from Benjamin Sesko and his camp,” he said in his latest YouTube video. “They spoke to the player’s camp, they presented the project.

They are prepared to make a really important financial proposal but it is not just about the money. It is also about the project. They want to make Benjamin Sesko the face of their project.
